Since 2006, Ridgeway Construction has been doing residential and commercial building projects in the Elk River area.

Now another well-known builder, DJ Bakken, has joined forces with Ridgeway. Bakken owned Bakken Building in Big Lake for 15 years. He shut down his company the end of the year and now is a design consultant with Ridgeway Construction in Elk River. "Our value systems are the same when it comes to faith, No. 1, and the integrity of how we treat our customers," Bakken explained.

John Aeshliman is the general contractor at Ridgeway. Aeshliman initially worked as a plumber, then went into the insurance field before getting into the construction business in 2006. Bakken said his business had 2,500 customers and from his customers' standpoint, not a lot has changed except the name of the company.

Ridgeway Construction's focus is on residential construction, and much of that revolves around remodeling projects. Aeshliman said when the company started five years ago the focus was more on new home construction. But with the changes in the economy and the housing market, that has led them to do more home remodeling and insurance restoration projects — including fixing problems associated with storm, water and fire damage. On the home remodeling front, they finish basements, remodel bathrooms and kitchens and build family room additions, four-season porches and decks. They currently are in the midst of remodeling a 100-year-old home. "We've turned into a versatile construction company," Aeshliman said. Special financing is available in some cases through the 203(k) program, a home renovation and loan program.

Meanwhile, Aeshliman and Bakken pride themselves on taking care of their customers — even after the project is done. They said the reason they are in business is to serve their customers and do what's best for them. As a design consultant, Bakken said his goal is not to just put an addition on a home, but to have it fit into the home's design and the owner's budget and daily lifestyle.

Aeshliman knows the construction side of the business and handles the production side with top quality. They both have a strong commitment to community service and to mission work. Their goal is to build Ridgeway Construction up so they can continue to give to the community. Bakken continues with his ministry called Hope Filled Hands. He's gearing up to help with anticipated flood damage this spring and continues to build homes and do mission work in Haiti.
